Payette Lake Run, Sun. August 31st, 2008

Whew, for the first time in my life I just finished 18.6 miles. RRR Barely . . . . but I finished thanks to Liz, Monica and Scott!

I felt really good up until mile 15 when I downed my second GU and by mile 16 was heading for the trees!

Looking over the race, I was averaging 9.5 minute miles. I walked the water stops and ran the whole way until mile 11. . . . that was a tough hill!

I will do that race again. I really loved the scenery and the fresh mountain air. I also loved the rain and the weather, it took my mind off the running. The shower felt really, really good today!

My goal is to find a good "pick me up" during the race that doesn't make a mess of my insides. I need to figure this out before the Portland Race.

Thanks to Liz for all her support today! Finishing the race with her by my side made all the difference!

Hi Melissa!
That was indeed a challenging race, physically and mentally! Those monster hills seem to be getting bigger every year!

In regards to race nutrition, I am thinking you may need something that is easier to digest like diluted electrolyte replacement drink or shot blocks. Maybe try it on your next long run?

We hope to make this race a TA annual tradition-- so count on running it again!

You're welcome! You did it! That's the most important thing. :)
